The use of virtual machines has increased in recent times. Many of us already use this system to creating environments for different development projects. Obviously, we want to work in an environment that is as fast as possible. Virtualization, despite all the advantages, features a performance than a real machine. In this tutorial I will present a set of tips to increase the speed of response of our virtual machines.

Below are some tips to increase the performance of virtual machines in Virtual PC 2007. In this tutorial is using Windows XP, but the procedure is similar for other operating systems. No doubt leave a comment.
- Install the "Virtual Machine Additions"
The "Virtual Machine Additions" act as an upgrade to components of the virtual machine. For example, it is "installed" a new graphics card. The mouse is no longer trapped inside the virtual machine, etc ... After the creation of a virtual machine, the "Virtual Machine Additions" should be installed soon.
- Do not use wallpaper (wallpaper) in virtual machines
If you do not use wallpaper in virtual machines, managed to increase the graphics performance of the same.
- Hardware Video Acceleration of maximum
To not notice the mouse up, and have a good response at the level graph, it is absolutely necessary that the video acceleration (Hardware Video Acceleration) is maximum. This is done in "Display Properties => Settings => Advanced => Troubleshoot.
- Disable the visual effects of Windows
If you disable the visual effects of Windows, we have an increase in graphics performance of CPU and memory, because we use much less resources. This is done in "Control Panel => Performance and Maintenance => = Adjust visual effects> Adjust for best performance."
- Disable the Remote Desktop
If you do not need the Remote Desktop in the virtual machine, we should turn it off because it is constantly waiting for new connections and it consumes resources of the virtual machine. The remote assistance (Remote Assistance) should also be disabled on the same grounds. This is done in "Control Panel => Performance and Maintenance => System => Remote.
- Turn off System Restore
We should also disable the System Restore (System Restore), unless it is really necessary. This is done in "Control Panel => Performance and Maintenance => System => System Restore."
- Save the virtual machines on a second disc
Where possible, we should keep the disks of virtual machines (files. HDV) on separate disks of the operating system of the host computer. The advantage is that we have a speed of access to data above. If two internal disk, great, use one for the operating system and another for the disks of virtual machines. If you can not use an external disk or USB 2 FireWire, and still have the advantage that they can move your VM's to any side. If you still do not have an external disk see this or this. ![]()
- Disable the writing of caching on the disk
The writing of caching on the disk (Write Caching on disk) in a virtual machine, reduces performance, because we are using more resources on the disc. This is done in "Control Panel => Performance and Maintenance => System => Hardware => Device Manager => Virtual HD => Policies."
EXTREME Performance
If extreme performance in Virtual PC 2007, we have to change your configuration file. PLEASE NOTE that this amendment will bring the host computer's CPU close to the limits. Do this for your account and risk. I already use and have never had problems, but each case is a case.
To change the configuration file of Virtual PC 2007, we have to close it and navigate to the following folder:
% appdata% \ Microsoft \ Virtual PC \
Simply put this address in Explorer, the folder is automatically opened. This folder is a file called options.xml. Let's open this file with Notepad.
In this file we put the following line:
<enable_idle_thread type="boolean"> true </ enable_idle_thread>
after the last </ virtual_network>
After we have changed the file, store and back to boot the Virtual PC 2007. When you start a virtual machine will automatically notice a significant increase in performance, and it is likely that the host computer's CPU remains always close to 100%. ![]()
If you have other tips to increase the performance of Virtual PC 2007, leave comment. No doubt the same thing.

@ alexandre
Thank you. To do ctrl + alt + del in the virtual machine should use left alt + del.
The menu of Virtual PC also has an option to send ctrl + alt + del into the virtual machine.
If you need more help just say so.

I wanted to look at how do you put the virtual network and original in type I use for net dialup and I know if it is to net the two Marquina as I do you put the two on a network?

@ Anderson
To get inside the net Virtual PC (Virtual Machine), this should be set to Shared Networking (NAT). Thus the system provides internet to the host virtual machine and conseguirár have internet on both systems.

you are really looking for congratulations on tutotial, it is wonderful, perfect, plus I have a doubt, it installed on my machine, but not so nemhuma I can connect to the internet, I velox and a network card encore, OFF BOARD, works perfectly on my machine, the more virtual it can not, or would send up a tutorial on connecting to the Internet so the virtual machine, very grateful for the attention ....
congratulations

@ GILES
On the question of Internet access in the virtual machine, you should configure the access network in the virtual machine as NAT.
Thanks for the comment about the tutorial.
You can do this through the properties of the virtual machine.
If you can not or need more help let new comment.
