Utility 64 bits

The era of 64-bit is ai! Begins to be time to change! With the increase of available memory in computers, many users begin to think about migrating their operating systems 32-bit (x86) for 64-bit (x64) to take advantage of all available memory. In fact, many applications are beginning to not support 32-bit architectures - I am referring here to SharePoint 2010.

However, not all computers support 64-bit. In this article we demonstrate how they can know if your computer operating system supports 64-bit and also supports Hardware Virtualization.

How to detect if my computer supports 64-bit?

There is a small utility, very simple, that tells us if our computer operating systems already support 64-bit and Virtualization Hardware. This utility is called Securable and can make your download at:

Securable 64 bits

When running the executable Securable be to you to a screen similar to the previous image, indicating whether your processor supports 64 or 32 bits, if it supports hardware DEP (Data Execution Prevention) and Hardware Virtualization. If you click with the mouse on top of these values, is presented to you some more useful information. For example, your processor can support Hardware Virtualization, but this be disabled in the BIOS of the computer, and need to go activate it, as you can see from the pictures below:

Hardware Virtualization Locked OFF

If they wish to migrate to the new Windows 7 or even Windows Server 2008 R2, is an excellent idea to adopt the 64-bit architecture. :)

    Hello,
    You have a typo here:
Hardware DEP (Detect Execution Prevention) is wrong, you should correct for Data Execution Prevention.

    Useful article, thanks.
